Privacy Policy
Last updated: 3 November 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how IELTS Prep App (the iPhone and iPad app "IELTS Prep App – Practice", "the app") handles your information. The app is developed and operated by Syed Sahib Sultan ("we", "us"). If you have any question about this policy, email ieltsprepsupport@googlegroups.com.
You can use the app without creating an account. Signing in is optional and is only used to keep your progress in sync across your devices.
1. Information we collect
Account information (only if you sign in)
You can sign in with Apple or with Google. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication (a Google service). When you sign in we receive:
- Sign in with Google: your name, email address, profile picture link and Google account ID.
- Sign in with Apple: your name and email address (or the private relay address if you choose "Hide My Email"), and your Apple user ID.
Firebase creates an account ID for you, which we use to store your synced progress and to link your subscription to your account.
Study progress
The app saves your progress on your device: completed tests and passages, scores and band estimates, your target band, exam date, study plan, practice history (including essays you write and the feedback you receive) and mock test results. If you sign in, this progress is also stored in Cloud Firestore (Google Cloud) under your account so it can sync between your iPhone and iPad.
Answers you submit for AI feedback
When you ask for feedback, the app sends your answer to our server (Firebase Cloud Functions), which passes it to an AI provider to produce scores and comments. This includes your Writing essays and the text of your Speaking answers. Depending on the service in use, the provider is Google (Gemini), OpenAI or Anthropic (Claude). We send only the content needed to produce the feedback, and not your name or email address.
Voice and speech
- Microphone: with your permission, the app records your voice while you answer Speaking questions.
- Speech recognition: your recording is turned into text by Apple's speech recognition, on your device where supported and otherwise by Apple's servers under Apple's privacy policy. The text is then used for feedback as described above.
- Talk with AI: if you start a live voice conversation, your voice is streamed to OpenAI's realtime service for the length of the call so the AI examiner can reply.
Feedback you send us
If you use the in-app feedback form, we store the message, its type and the email address you enter so we can reply.
Usage, diagnostics and device information
- Mixpanel receives app usage events (for example, which screens and tests you open), device and app version information, and the answers you give during onboarding (target band, test type, current level, study challenges and daily study time). Mixpanel identifies you with a random ID, not your name or email address.
- Google Analytics for Firebase receives app usage events and an app instance ID. We use it to understand how the app is used and to measure our Google Ads campaigns.
- Firebase Crashlytics receives crash reports and device information so we can fix bugs.
- Firebase Remote Config is used to switch app features on or off.
Advertising measurement
The app asks for permission to track through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you allow it, your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) may be used by Google Analytics for Firebase to measure which ads led to app installs and purchases. If you decline, the IDFA is not used. We also use Apple's SKAdNetwork and Apple Search Ads attribution, which report ad results without identifying you. The app does not show ads.
Purchases
Subscriptions are bought and billed through Apple. We never see your payment card details. RevenueCat processes your App Store purchase information to unlock Premium features. If you sign in, your subscription is linked to your account ID so Premium works on all your devices.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging stores a device token so we can send study reminders and app announcements.
2. How we use Google user data
When you choose Sign in with Google, the app requests only basic profile access (your name, email address, profile picture and Google account ID). It does not access your Gmail, Google Drive, contacts, calendar or any other data in your Google Account.
- Use: we use this data only to create and identify your IELTS Prep App account, to let you sign in on your devices, and to keep your study progress and subscription in sync.
- Sharing: it is stored by Firebase Authentication (Google) on our behalf. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or share it with any other third party, except where the law requires it.
- Storage and deletion: it is kept until you delete your account. You can delete it at any time in the app (see section 5) or remove the app's access from your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
IELTS Prep App's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
3. How we use information
- To provide the app's features: practice tests, scoring, AI feedback, study plans and syncing.
- To process and restore subscriptions.
- To send reminders and announcements you have allowed.
- To understand how the app is used, measure our ads and fix problems.
- To reply to your messages and feedback.
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers that run parts of the app for us, for the purposes described above:
- Google (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging, Remote Config, and the Gemini API)
- OpenAI (AI feedback and live voice conversations)
- Anthropic (AI feedback)
- Mixpanel (product analytics)
- RevenueCat (subscription management)
- Apple (sign-in, speech recognition, purchases and ad attribution)
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the app.
5. Keeping and deleting your information
- Delete your account: in the app, open Settings and tap Delete Account in the Account section. This deletes your account and the progress stored in the cloud. If you signed in with Apple or Google, the app's access to that account is also revoked. Progress saved on your device stays there until you delete the app.
- Without an account: your progress is stored only on your device and is removed when you delete the app.
- Other requests: to ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of feedback messages or analytics data, email ieltsprepsupport@googlegroups.com. We will reply within 30 days.
We keep account and progress data while your account exists. Answers sent for AI feedback are processed to produce the result and are not used by us for any other purpose.
6. Your choices
- You can use the app without signing in.
- You can turn off microphone, speech recognition, tracking and notification permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
- Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, UK or California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the use of your personal information. Email us to use them.
7. Security and international transfers
Data is sent over encrypted connections and stored with our providers, mainly in the United States. We limit access to the people and services that need it to run the app.
8. Children
The app is meant for people preparing for the IELTS exam and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above, and for important changes we will tell you in the app.
